Obituary of John R. Robison

ROBISON, John R. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016 at St. Mary's of Michigan. He was 78 years old. John Rodney Robison was born on November 12, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Cletis and Ella May (Delassandro) Robison.
John graduated from Danville High School with the Class of 1954. He joined the United States Air Force, was stationed in Japan, and served as an airplane engine mechanic. He met and married Alicia Gonzalez and together they raised five children surrounded by the loving families of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw, MI. At the church he served in many capacities over the years as Past President of the Mens Group, drove the school bus for church high school basketball team, and was a Cursillista which guided couples to find faith in their relationships. John retired from General Motors Grey Iron Plant, after working 35 years of service and then went on to work for the Saginaw Housing Commission as a Custodian Manager of Rosien Towers where he retired in 2004. He continued to volunteer for the Saginaw Commission on Aging, delivering Meals-On-Wheels until January 2016. John was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved traveling, biking, hiking, walking and driving throughout the United States and Mexico. He also enjoyed country music and going to Detroit Tiger baseball games. He loved life, his family, and serving others.
He left his legacy to continue on through his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including, his four daughters and one son: Mary Robison, Connie (Mickey) Taylor, Christi (John) Falkenhagen, Judith (Manuel) Escamilla, and John (Kia) Robison; ten grandchildren: Joshua and Samantha Sowers, Stephanie (Kevin) James, Peter Zonneville, Olivia (Erik) Gernat, Natalia and Micaela Escamilla, Justin and Nathan Ide, and Nickolas Robison; three great-grandchildren: Joshua and Jayce Sowers and Madison James. He admired and cared about his remaining siblings, one brother and two sisters: Jim (Lorene) Patterson, Martha (Paul) Struble, and Judith Bolles; and special friend, Sherry Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Thomas and Nickolas; father- and mother-in-law, Jose Maria and Manuela Gonzalez. He also was preceded in death by many grandchildren and other loved family members.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Mary's of Michigan ICU, for their exceptional care, as well as the Dr. Liu Hematology Center.
MEMORIAL: A Celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. A private interment will take place at a later date in his hometown.
VISITATION: Family and friends are invited to visit with his family on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
