Obituary of Gerald L. Rischack

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
RISCHACK, Gerald L. died at home suddenly on February 28, 2016 due to complications from pneumonia. Jerry was born to Edna Dahnke and Albert George Rischack on July 25, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the United States Army in Korea, working with heavy artillery on the front lines twice. This contributed to his loss of hearing in his later years, which isolated him to a great extent. He married his sister's best friend, Beverly Catherine Schooks, on June 20, 1953 in Detroit. He was a well-respected metal pattern maker in Detroit and later at GM in Saginaw who worked hard, played hard and truly enjoyed his friends, family and his special dog, PNUT. Jerry was a strong supporter of the VFW (Post 1959 and Oakley) and the American Legion (Post 22 and 439). He is memorialized with a brick on the Korean War memorial and with a special ceiling tile at the Oakley VFW post. He was a proud member of the Korean War Veterans. He loved hunting and fishing and was always the "life of the party." His sweet spirit and hearty laugh, along with his sharp wit and sense of humor, will be missed by all who knew him. Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly; his son, Randy; daughter, Leslie McDonald; sister, Marilyn Dooley; brother-in-law, Robert (Lucinda) Schooks; grandson, Ryan; and granddaughter, Kelly. He also leaves eight adored nieces: Janice, Terri, Susan, Lori, Tamera, Lisa, Jennifer, and Rebecca; and several special cousins. Special thanks are given to his "other daughter" Sandy Hansen, Dr. Glenn Cipullo, and Dr. Miles Light, and staff (Janet and Jill), for the never ending love and support. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Please share your thoughts and memories with the family through www.deislerfuneralhome.com
