Obituary of Gertrude L. Sherbert

SHERBERT, Gertrude "Gert" L. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home, where she was called to her eternal home on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the age of 102. Gertrude Lena Schrodt was born July 25, 1913 in Germany, to the late Heinrich and Christine Lena (Kirschler) Schrodt. She was married to Norman Sherbert on July 28, 1934; he preceded her in death on June 2, 2004.
Gertrude was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its Ladies Society. She volunteered for the Red Cross for ten years in Detroit, Michigan, the Michigan Blood Bank in Saginaw, coffee hour at Luther Manor, and the Commission of Aging. Gertrude was a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother; she will be remembered for her endless love and care to her family and the time they spent with each other, including the cottage in Grayling, Michigan.
Surviving are her son, Norman "Ron" (Sandy) Sherbert of Evergreen, CO; daughter, Joyce (Bill) Strike of Saginaw; five grandchildren: Kim (Jeff) Trudeau, Roe Sherbert, Dale Strike, Ty (Deb) Sherbert, and Brett Sherbert; eight great-great grandchildren: Ryan (Katherine), Lindsay, Katie, Bay, Brynn, Ellie, Cy, and Jude; great-great grandson, Jack; and brother, Walter (Marge) Schrodt; sister-in-law, Jane Schrodt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 69 years, Norman; sister, Frieda Branson; and two brothers, Henry William Schrodt and Henry Schrodt, Jr.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Grace Hospice for all of their personal, extended, and loving care.
FUNERAL: Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss Street, 48602. Pastor Charles Buckhahn will officiate. Entombment will follow at Oakwood Mausoleum officiated by Pastor Buckhahn and Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. On Monday, Gertrude will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
