Obituary of Anita Norma Ackerman

Anita N. Ackerman of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at The Villa at Parkridge in Ypsilanti, MI, with her family by her side. She was 83. Anita Norma DeAgostino was born on March 13, 1932 in Midland, Michigan to the late Joseph and Michelina (Fabiano) DeAgostino. She had been married to Howard Leo Ackerman for many years; he preceded her in death just 10 months ago on March 23, 2015. Anita graduated from St. Mary Cathedral High School with the Class of 1950. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and later attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Anita worked many years as a legal secretary and was a Past President of the Saginaw Valley Chapter, The National Secretaries Association 1975-76. She loved to entertain and host family dinners; she welcomed many people and treated them as members of the family. She took the time to always visit her daughters, no matter where they called home. Anita will be remembered for being a very generous person with her time, talent, and efforts to help others. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Norma (Ashish) Sarkar and Michelle Pickering; five grandchildren: Alicia, Monica, and Jay Sarkar and Stephanie and Geena Pickering; sister-in-law, Olympia DeAgostino; brother-in-law, Russell (Katherine) Ackerman; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and three sisters, two brothers and their spouses: Marie DeAgostino, Joseph (Monica) DeAgostino, Dorothy (William) Watkins, Vincent DeAgostino, and Nicolina (Joseph) Siminski. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016 St. Dominic Parish-Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church site, 4735 W. Michigan Ave., 48638. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State), on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
