Obituary of Kenneth L. Williams

Williams, Kenneth L. "Laverne" of Saginaw, Michigan, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper, surrounded by his family. He was 94 years old. Kenneth L. Williams was born on November 12, 1921 in Saginaw to the late Roy L. and Ruth Bell (Ette) Williams. Ken married Evelyn M. Nash on November 15, 1941; she survives him. Ken proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and then was a member of the American Legion Post #439. He was a faithful member of Calvary Memorial Episcopal Church and then St. John's Episcopal Church. Ken worked for the US Post Office as a clerk, retiring on December 29, 1980, after 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union and the Saginaw Retirees Travel Club. He and his wife loved camping, traveling, bird watching, and their dog, Toby. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 74 years, Evelyn; two sons: Kenneth C. (Susan) Williams and Richard L. (Patti) Williams; eight grandchildren: Scott O. (Dawn) Wallace, Sherri L. (Michael) Nixon, Stephanie A. (Jeffrey) Rowley, Matthew C. (Barbara) Williams, Laura A. (Derek) Barnes, Sarah M. (John) Dorr, Stephen M. (Maryann) Williams, and Amanda L. (Matthew) Southerland; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one brother, Gerald D. (Doris) Williams; and son-in-law, Thomas Smith. Ken was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol J. (Williams) Smith; a granddaughter, Melissa K. Williams; a grandson, Jason R. Williams; a great-grandson: Nicklas W. Barnes; two brothers: Robert W. Williams and John "Jack" Williams; and sister, Shirley Cramton. FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Daniel Cannon and Rev. Pamela Renna will co-officiate. The U.S. Army and the American Legion Post #439 will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the service at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to St. John's Episcopal Church or charity of choice.
