Pyne, John E. of Saginaw Township, Michigan, formerly of Frankenmuth, Michigan, passed away on November 6, 2015 at MediLodge of Grand Blanc. He was 77 years old. John Edward Pyne was born on May 9, 1938 in Detroit Michigan to the late John Francis and Ruth Miriam (Jeannot) Pyne. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Detroit in 1956. He then proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1957 - 1959 where he served most of his time in Okinawa and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He then earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Wayne State University in 1963, followed by his Masters of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Michigan in 1965. John also received his Education Specialist Degree from U of M in 1968. John started his career and spent 6 years as a teacher and counselor in Livonia and Farmington schools. He also served as a probation officer for the Livonia Municipal Court. In 1971, he relocated to Frankenmuth as List Elementary School principal. After 10 years, he decided to return to his true love -- student counseling. John was the Guidance Director at Frankenmuth High School from 1981 until his retirement in 2000. In addition to John's passion for student counseling, he also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, family, and friends; playing cards, especially Poker and Hearts; and enjoyed watching football, particularly U of M Football. Surviving are his daughter, Laura (Pyne) and Scott Bierlein and their daughters, Samantha and Valerie Bierlein. He is also survived by his son, Mike Pyne and nephew, Christian Draheim of Detroit. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 East Tuscola Road, Frankenmuth, MI. Rev. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate. Rite of Committal and military honors will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI, promptly at 1:45 p.m. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday morning, John will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the Bright Focus Foundation - a non-profit organization supporting research for Dementia and Macular Degeneration.
