Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LaFOUNTAINE, Charles F. of Saginaw Township, Michigan, passed away on November 3, 2015 at Barton Woods Assisted Living, with his family by his side. He was 87.
Charles Francis LaFountaine was born on May 4, 1928 in Lincoln Park, Michigan to the late Charles J. and Hazel D. (Thompson) LaFountaine. He married Sally L. Henris on December 3, 1949 in Saginaw; she survives him.
Charles "Chuck" graduated from Lincoln Park High School and moved to Saginaw to work with his brother at Rainbow Bread. Then, he owned Saginaw Cut Stone. Later, he would become a life insurance salesman. He would retire as a restaurant owner.
Chuck was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, a recipient of Saginawian of the Year, former president of the Young Republications, former Commissioner for Saginaw Township Parks & Recreation, former president of Douglas McArthur Athletic Association, a sports coach, and he helped many homeless people by creating rooming houses, feeding them at his restaurant, and provided many other services to those in need. Overall, Charles was a civic minded person involved in many organizations in the area. Chuck loved nothing more than his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Sally; three daughters and one son: Cathi Swope, Charles LaFountaine, Lynne (Mike) Gempel, and Laurie LaFountaine; six grandchildren: Nicole, Samantha, Megan, Trisha, Lisa, and Richard; and six great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard LaFountaine, grandson, Chris Gempel; son-in-law, John Swope; and two brothers: Robert LaFountaine and William Thompson.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Barton Woods Assisted Living for the loving care of their father and the continued care of their mother.
