Obituary of Duane Richard Spaedt

Spaedt, Duane R. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He was 69 years old. Duane Richard Spaedt was born on August 23, 1946 in Saginaw, to Otto and Hannah (Asmus) Spaedt. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the Class of 1964 and then attended Lawrence Institute of Technology. He married Sue Ellen Wahl on May 10, 1969; she survives him. He was then drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War in 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. Later, he would then work for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 32 years until his retirement in January 2003. Duane was the president of Generations Family FCU for 25 years, was a coach for Saginaw Township soccer teams and for Little League baseball, a past member of Maple Hill Golf Club, and achieved five holes-in-one. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and was an avid sports fan. He loved nothing more than his grandchildren and attending all of their sports activities. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Sue; two sons and one daughter: David (Piper) Spaedt, Jeff (Alicia) Spaedt, and Melinda (Michael) McGovern; five grandchildren: Nick Percival, Kalee Percival, Samuel Spaedt, Emily Spaedt, and Hunter Spaedt; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Vargas; his mother, Hannah Spaedt; one brother, David A. Spaedt; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Parish - Ss. Peter & Paul site, 4735 West Michigan Avenue, 48638. Rev. Fr. Andy LaFramboise will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday morning, Duane will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to University of Michigan Brain Cancer Division, St. Mary's of Michigan Field Neurosciences Institute, or Heartland Home Care and Hospice Services.
