Obituary of Gertrude A. Coppens

Coppens, Gertrude A. of Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence with her family by her side. She was 89 years old. Gertrude A. Walsh was born on March 27, 1926 in Saginaw to the late Michael B. and Anna (Hogan) Walsh. Gert was a proud graduate of SS. Peter & Paul High School. She married Raymond P. Coppens on November 30, 1946 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on November 2, 1988. She was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Gert was also a member of the Saginaw Country Club and the Germania Club. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with various card clubs.
Surviving are three sons and one daughter: Michael C. (Carol) Coppens of Warren, Linda R. (Robert) Clipper of Silver Spring, MD, James P. (Marcia Gagnon) Coppens of Linwood and Robert P. Coppens of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren: Jason (Dr. Alyson) Coppens, Lisa (Scott) Flohr, Christopher Topham, Jeffrey Topham, Rebecca (Art) Bolat, William (Jennifer) Topham, Jenipher (Randall) Swanson, Brooke Beckman, Amanda Gagnon, Ashley (Kyle) Taylor, and Ryan (Krista) Coppens; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Gertrude) Walsh; a sister, Janet Fox; a sister-in-law, Sharon Walsh; and a brother-in-law, Robert Beson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Francis (Lois) Walsh, Mary (Walter) Gorney, Raymond Walsh, Patrick Walsh and Helen Beson.
FUNERAL- A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Holy Spirt Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Private Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Mausoleum.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Gertrude will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
