Guzman, Martha of Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at St. Mary's of Michigan surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old. Martha Gomez was born on March 1, 1929 in Natalia, Texas to the late Alpolonio and Concepcion (Salinas) Gomez. She married Asencion C. Guzman on March 29, 1949; he preceded her in death on August 15, 1977. Martha was faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was actively involved in their women's group winning,"Woman of the Year," in 2004. Throughout the years, Martha served various other capacities within the church. Martha enjoyed gardening and wildlife, especially feeding the birds. She also was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan and Bingo player. Martha took pride in her independence, often giving many friends rides to church or countless other appointments. Above all, she loved and cherished her family. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the NICU staff at St. Mary's of Michigan and Dr. Nikolai Kinachtchouk for all the love and care they provided. Surviving are five sons: Asencion (Marta) Guzman of Saginaw, Henry (Alice) Guzman of Saginaw, Bernardo (Yolanda) Guzman of Saginaw, Eduardo Guzman of Saginaw, and Jose (LaShawn) Guzman of Toledo, OH; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alberto (Elena) Gomez of Bowling Green, FL. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Guzman; and many brothers and sisters. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFMCap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Rosary and Vigil Service will take place at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening. Martha will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
