Obituary of Esther A. Murphy

Murphy, Esther A. of Saginaw, Michigan
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away at the age of 101 on Thursday, August 6, 2015 with her family by her side. Esther Agnes Kettle was born on February 18, 1914 in Saginaw to the late Christopher Henry and Catherine (Wilson) Kettle. She was a 1932 graduate from Ss. Peter & Paul High School. Esther married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Stan Murphy on June 27, 1936; he preceded her in death on May 20, 1998. She was a charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church - St. Dominic Parish. Esther was devoted to her faith, the Blessed Virgin Mary and participated in the League of Catholic Women, the Legion of Mary, the Rosary and the Catholic Study Club. She was also a charter member of Maple Hill Golf Club, honorary member of Saginaw Country Club, a 55 year member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Red Hat Society. Esther enjoyed golfing until the age of 96. Esther treasured the time spent with her many friends. Above all, she was dedicated to her husband and children.
Surviving are two daughters and three sons: William J. (Janet) Murphy of Saginaw, Margaret C. (Gene) Bower of Indian River, Michael H. (Pamela) Murphy of Au Gres, Patrick J. (Tina) Murphy of Portland, OR, and Colleen A. (Mark) Ameel of Boyne City, MI; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Tarrant; brother, Roy V. Kettle.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening. Esther will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, St. Stephen site, 1310 Malzahn Rd. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate with Rite of Committal to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
