Obituary of Betty Jane Gorski

Betty Jane Gorski, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of Zilwaukee, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre. She was 91 years old. Betty Jane Hagerty was born on May 7, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Wallace James and Maude Marie (Ancel) Hagerty. She married Mervin "Bud" George Gorski on December 29, 1945; he survives her. Betty attended St. Matthew's Catholic Church for many years of her life. She and Bud were both avid Detroit Tiger fans, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and square-dancing. Together, they spent many winters in Florida at Crystal Lake Village. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and singing in harmony. She loved nothing more than her family and holding her grandbabies. Surviving besides her husband of nearly 70 years, Bud are six children: Jane (Keith) Hadaway, Linda Cherry, Jim (Mary Lynn) Gorski, Nancy (Alan) Vance, Marybeth (Rod) Bonham, and Dan Gorski; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren with three on the way; and many other family members and friends. Betty affectionately said of her children, her grandchildren, and her great-children: "There isn't a bad one in the bunch." Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two great-grandchildren: Jessica Lorigan and Thomas Warnemuende; two sisters; ten brothers; and son-in-law, Anthony Cherry. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre for the loving care devoted to their mother for all of these years. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at St. John Paul II (St. Matthew site), 511 W. Cornell Street, 48604. Rev. Fr. James W. Bessert will officiate. Rite of Committal will conclude at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Wednesday, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. On Wednesday evening, a eulogy service will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by family members, lay ministers: Jim and Sally Macomber. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
