Obituary of Ellen L. Barnett

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. She would have been 101 years old on June 1, 2015. Ellen Louise Boergert Barnett was born in Saginaw, Michigan on June 1, 1914, daughter of Alfred and Alice (Atwood) Boergert. Mom married C. Neil Barnett on September 27, 1941; he preceded her in death on October 11, 1980. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Bay City Junior College. Mom was proud to be a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Saginaw. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, Tiger ballgames, Notre Dame and Michigan State University football and basketball. Mom is survived by six children: Kathleen (Peter) Loveland, Bridgman, MI; Neil (Adele) Barnett, Lansing, MI; Mary Ellen (David) Bluem, Saginaw, MI; Bob Barnett, Gaylord, MI; Tim (Bonnie) Barnett, Prescott, AZ; and Rick (Connie) Barnett, Saginaw, MI; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Mom also leaves several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Our mother's main focus in life was her family which included her children and grandchildren along with her nieces and nephews. Mom was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 40 years; her beloved son, Michael Barnett; three brothers: Fred Failing, Kendrick Failing, and Ross Boergert; and son-in-law, Ron Branch.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, St. Helen site, 2445 N. Charles Street. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Salvation Army and the Saginaw City Rescue Mission. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home, church, or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.
