Obituary of Richard T. Tyra

Tyra, Richard T. Hemlock, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2015 with his family by his side. He was 83 years old. Richard Thomas Tyra I, was born on June 30, 1931 in Sterling, Michigan to the late John and Antoinette (Jamrog) Tyra. Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, serving during the Korean War as a Military Police Officer. He married the love of his life, Mary A. Panico on April 30, 1955 in Saginaw; she survives him. Dick was a longtime employee with Saginaw Manufacturing - General Motors, retiring after 32 years as a forklift driver. Upon retirement, Dick became actively involved with the General Motors Retirees, attending many of their meetings. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 251, and the American Legion Post #439. He was also a member of the Saginaw Moose Lodge 82. Dick was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hemlock. He was an avid outdoors man. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking many vacations with his family. He had a special love for his dogs, especially beagles. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and love. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Mary A. Tyra of Hemlock; three daughters and two sons: Debbie (Robert) Tubb of James Township; Marianne King of Saginaw Township, Rich Tyra, II of Midland, Cathleen (Timothy) Breternitz of Midland, and Gregory Tyra and his significant other, Jennifer Stryker of Thomas Township; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three brothers: Edward (Betty) Tyra, Eugene Tyra, and Ronald Tyra. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marie Carlotta Antoinette Tubb; two brothers and three sisters. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, St. Andrew site, 612 N. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered under the auspices of the U.S. Army and VFW Post #1859. Honoring Dick's wishes cremation will follow the Mass. A private committal service will take place at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit the family at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, St. Andrew site, on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 251 or a charity of the donor's choice.
