Obituary of Augustine Sandoval

Sandoval Jr., Augustine "Augie" Saginaw, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home. He was 78 years old. Augustine Sandoval, Jr. was born on September 14, 1936 in Saginaw to the late, Augustine, Sr. and Tiburcia (Toledo) Sandoval. Augie was a graduate of Arthur Hill Tech. Following high school, Augie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965, serving as a sharp shooter during the Korean War. Throughout his life, Augie faithfully served his fellow veterans by volunteering at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. He, above all, was devoted to his family, a true patriarch and will always be remembered for his love and compassion. He was a faithful Christian his entire life, passing his faith to his family, most recently he was a member of Beacon of Hope Church. Always wanting to benefit his community, Augie also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He was recognized by the President of the United States for all of his volunteering efforts. He was a worker by nature and held strong work ethics. Often working several jobs at a time because he enjoyed working. Augie love to play cards, especially Euchre, as well as various other games with his family. Above all, Augie will be forever remembered for loving and cherishing his family and for being a light to those in need. Truly selfless and a servant to God. Surviving are four daughters: Lisa Godwin of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Saginaw, Selena Sandoval of Saginaw, Jesusa Sandoval of Saginaw, and Maria Sandoval (Thomas Tripp) of Saginaw; eight grandchildren: Daniel Godwin, Thalia Diaz, Jordan Diaz, Briana Sandoval, Joseph Tripp, Isabelle Diaz, David Godwin, and Rachel Godwin; one great-granddaughter, Lailanie Nerio; one brother and five sisters: Anita Huerta, Patricia Rowe, Margaret Sandoval, Connie Hernandez, Francisco Sandoval and Socorro Garibay. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister: John Sandoval, Larry Sandoval, Mary Hernandez, Andrew Sandoval, Louis Sandoval, and Frederick Sandoval. FUNERAL: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Tucker Gunneman will officiate. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the auspices of U.S. Army and the American Legion Post #439. VISITATION: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 8, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
