Obituary of Carlton F. Wodtke

Passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Covenant HealthCare - Harrison. He was 96 years old. Carlton F. Wodtke was born on June 21, 1918 in Flint, Michigan to the late Paul and Emma (Kolakowski) Wodtke. He was a graduate of Flint North High School and with Michigan State College in June of 1940 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. Following graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 10, 1941. Carlton was then selected for Officer Training School at Harvard Business School. It was also during this time he married the love of his life, Ruth June Eckert on January 10, 1943; she survives him. He was honorably discharged as a Captain from the Army Air Corps on February 11, 1946. Carlton was employed with Home Dairy Company as their Secretary and Treasurer. He was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church and the choir. He loved playing the piano, golfing and gardening. Surviving are his beloved wife of 71 years, Ruth June Wodtke of Saginaw Township; son, Garth Paul Wodtke and his partner, Marlene Planasch of New Berlin, WI; sister, Betty Jane Wereley; niece, Lynn (Wereley) Lawrukovich; nephew-in-law, Mike Lawrukovich, and a nephew, Rick Eckert of Oconomowac, WI. Also surviving is a special friend, Ron Salvner and many others. FUNERAL: Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Rev. Paul R. Hinz will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 1859. Burial will take place at Richland Township Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Peace Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
