Dear Mrs. Ninan, Anita, and Anil, I am so sad and sorry for your loss. I have been thinking much of all the time I spent at the house on Delevan Court, and how welcome you all made me feel. Such good memories. I can still remember being a child 35 years ago and finding out what kind of medicine Dr. Ninan practiced. I asked my mom why someone would choose that specialty. "Cancer is so sad and scary," I said to my mom. "How can he want to be around so much sadness all the time?" "Well," she replied, "Maybe he wants to help people with the sadness and fear by figuring out what to do. Maybe he knows he can explain the medicine and treatments well, and can find the best path to take to help them fight the illness. Maybe he knows he can help them have hope and be brave."
What an wonderful person he was to have made such a difference to so many people. He was such a gentle and steadfast man. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
With Love and Sympathy,
Melissa Sorongon

In this moment of grief and sadness may the Lord comfort dear Molly Aunty, children Dr Anitha and Dr Ninan and all loved ones.
Back in his native land, Kerala, India, Aniyankunjuchayan (Dr Jacob C Ninan) was an inspiration to many young people in his family and beyond. He was the son of the illustrious Cunchattil Idichandy Ninan Sir who along with his brother in law Madathil Idiculla George (my maternal grandfather) were the leading orators and convention speakers of the Orthodox Syriac Church in Kerala, sharing the message of Jesus among the faithful inspite of their fulltime jobs as school Head Masters. Dr. Jacob's dad's only sister, my grandmother Kunjamma George was very proud of her nephew and used to tell us little kids three decades ago that if we are God fearing and diligent we could achieve great success like him. Dr. Jacob in turn was very fond of his Aunt and used to visit her with gifts till her passing whenever he visited India.
It is the dedication, efforts and achievements of pioneers like Dr Jacob who contributed immensely to the welfare of the local community, which paved the foundation for the success of future immigrants from India to the land of opportunity, US.
In 1968 Dr Jacob made his first journey to US, travelling the next day following the priestly ordination ceremony of his cousin late Rev Fr Alexander George (my mom Susamma's (Chellamma) brother) who also served as Professor in the Catholicate College, Kerala along with Dr Jacob's elder brother Prof C.N. Mathew Sir.
Being mostly in India and growing up there, chances of meeting Dr Jacob personally was seldom possible. I remember seeing him almost two decades back when he was present in Kerala for the wedding of his nephew Ninan Mathew (Sunumonchayan).
When Dr Jacob unexpectedly passed away in India, my dad K C Mathew and brother Alexander were there at the hospital to comfort and pray for the grieving family.
Dr. Jacob would continue to inspire many through the legacy of his work and caring nature revealing the love of God.
I am not able to be present in person for the church funeral service today. In this moment of grief our prayers and thoughts are with Dr Jacob's family and all loved ones. May Lord Jesus comfort you all with the peace that passeth all understanding on this mid lent day. For Dr Jacob, absent in earth means only one thing, present in heaven with Jesus!
"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live" John 11: 25

Dear family of Dr. Ninan,
How very sad I am about the loss of your loved one. As my doctor for 13 years, I saw him every 6 months and sometimes more often. I had an appointment scheduled for March 19. It will be hard for me not to see him on that date. His care and manners will always be remembered. As a cancer patient, you just don't think of your doctor going before you. God's plans are not our plans. I was blessed to know Dr. Ninan and grateful for his care and listening ear.
With sincere love and sympathy,
Veronica Rice

Legacy: It seems that now days people are talking about leaving or building a Legacy. Dr. Ninan was his own Legacy by the very life he lived. He was a warm, generous, caring friend. Dr. Ninan was a wise, compassionate physician in a gut-wrenching /heart-rending specialty. He was a gentle gentleman. In the Spanish language, there is a special way to say farewell, "Vaya Con Dios" (Go With God). So, as we say good-bye to our dear friend, Go With God, Jake. You will be greatly missed.

Every year four of us would head to Boyne for a golf weekend. It was a guys retreat made special beyond description by the unique bond between us four. Jake was in our foursome, and he is irreplaceable. I loved him as a brother, even though it was only once a year when we got together. Jake was truly a "gentle-man", and no better legacy can rest with a person as far as I'm concerned. I will miss him dearly and our prayers extend out to Molly in her grief and to his children and all who knew this model of a man. See you one day again, Jake.
