Henry "Hank" Meyer of Saginaw Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence following a courageous battle against many health challenges. His loving wife and dearest companion, Barbara, was at his side. He was 90 years old. Henry Meyer was born on July 17, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Adam, Sr. and Catherine (Usinger) Meyer. He married Barbara J. Klabfleisch on December 1, 1988. Henry proudly served in United States Army during World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. He spent his career as a partner in Adam Meyer & Sons with his father and two brothers. He served as President of the Michigan Painting & Contractors of America and he was appointed an Employer Trustee at the inception of the Michigan Painters Insurance Fund in July 1962. He served continuously as a Trustee until December 2001 and recognizing his leadership abilities, his fellow Trustees elected Henry as Chairman of the Board. Henry was a devoted charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and served on numerous committees. He was a lifetime member of The Fordney Club, Elks 47, and VFW Post #1566. Henry was also a member of the American Legion Post #439 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #497. He was a Past President of the Pioneer Club and he was also a former senior member of the Saginaw Country Club. Above all, Henry was well known for his cooking ability, most notably his soup, dill pickles and sauerkraut and sausage. He loved a good game of golf and was known for his pranks and great sense of humor. He loved gardening, the challenge of the casino and the University of Michigan. Henry deeply cared for and cherished his family. Surviving are his loving wife of 26 years, Barbara J. Meyer of Saginaw Township; two sons and one daughter: Thomas H. Meyer of Saginaw, Lori A. Meyer of Kalamazoo, and Timothy H. Meyer of Phoenix, AZ; stepdaughter, Lisa (Richard) Schmidt of Venice, CA; grandchildren: Amanda (Mark) Perkins of Northville, Annmarie (Jordan) Chapin of Kingston, Hunter and Holden Schimdt of Venice, CA; four great grandchildren: Parker, Camden, Kyler and Owen; sister, Mary Miller, brother, Harold (Delores) Meyer; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Meyer. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Alex and Adam; and sisters: Katie Schafer, Pauline Miller, Hilda Collins and Martha Reis. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ortho Department of the University of Michigan and the Cartwright Hospice Residence for their exceptional care and compassion. FUNERAL: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockway St. Rev. Kathleen A. Basner will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post #439 at Roselawn Mausoleum with entombment to follow. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
