Obituary of Donald Philip Mazany

Donald P. Mazany of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Cartwright Hospice Residence, after a short residency at St. Francis Home. He was 96 years old. Donald Philip Mazany was born on July 23, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Philip and Helen (Sebecki) Mazany. He married Evelyn J. Klopf on July 5, 1941; they celebrated 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2002.
Donald graduated from Saginaw High School and then enlisted the United States Navy. He proudly served as an Electrician's Mate, operating a gyrocompass during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Western Electric for a short time and then worked for The Saginaw News for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. Donald was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and then St. Helen Catholic Church. He was also a member and past historian for the American Legion Post #439. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the banjo and singing, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed nothing more than his grandchildren.
Surviving are his three sons and one daughter: Martin P. (Kathy) Mazany, Donald M. (Marsha) Mazany, Michael J. (Desiree) Mazany, and Vickie Sue (Mark) Sullivan; ten grandchildren: Brett (Lieve) Mazany, Jill Mazany, Cadence Mazany, David Mazany, Matthew Mazany, Gina Mazany, Jenelle (Robert) Watrous, Bryan (Lindsey) White, Andrew (Kari) Sullivan, and Patrick Sullivan and fiancée, Heather Fulp; five great-grandchildren: Alex Mazany, Aidan Mazany, Caleb White, Camden Watrous, and Graham Watrous. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and two brothers and two sisters, Roman, Jack, Elaine, and Patsy.
FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Christ the Good Shepard Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles St. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Chapel military honors will take place under the auspices of American Legion Post #439.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Legion Scholarship Fund or Christ the Good Shepard Catholic Church.
