PHELAN, Kathryn M. "Kay" of Saginaw, Michigan, Passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Kindy Care Assisted Living. She was 89 years old. Kathryn Mae Miller was born on August 12, 1925 in Fort Scott, Kansas to the late Roy and Mary Alice "Mayme" (Lucas) Miller. She was a proud graduate of Fort Scott High School in Kansas. As a young woman, Kay learned to play the piano and violin and enjoyed playing both throughout her life. Upon moving to Michigan, Kay went out on a blind date with Thomas J. Phelan, Jr. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1951, celebrating 45 wonderful years together until his passing on August 29, 1996. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Kay enjoyed the outdoors, arts and crafts, going to the casino, reading, but above all she loved and cherished her family and friends. Surviving are two daughters and two sons: Kathleen Marie (Dennis) Maier of Port Lucie, FL, Mary Lou (Michael) Smerdon of Boca Raton, FL, Thomas Joseph (Karen) Phelan of Reese, and John George (DeAnna "Dee Dee") Phelan of Saginaw; two grandchildren: Cindy Lynn Maier of Saginaw, and Jacob Allen Phelan of Saginaw; and a sister-in-law, Doris Miller of Missouri. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, George John Miller. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, St. Helen site, 2445 N. Charles Street. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off state) on Monday, October, 27, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. Kay will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
