Obituary of Harold Dewitt Davis

DAVIS, Harold Dewitt, Jr. of Cadillac formerly of Freeland, Michigan, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old. Harold Dewitt Davis, Jr. was born on October 19, 1925 in Boiling Springs, South Carolina to the late Harold Dewitt and Annie (Atkins) Davis, Sr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II; upon his return he married the love of his life, Doris Tennant on June 14, 1946 in Flint, Michigan. Harold worked as a painter, an insurance agent and was a former owner and operator of Ivan's Canoe Rental in Baldwin, Michigan. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his birds. Harold was a NASCAR enthusiast and loved taking trips to the casino. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS and a Mason. Above all, Harold loved and cherished the times with his family. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Judy Bergquist of McBain, Dale Davis and his girlfriend, Debbie Rohde of Saginaw, and Donna Sue Davis of Saginaw; nine grandchildren: JoAnn Ann (Brian) Boven of McBain, Eric Bergquist of Cadillac, Michael Bergquist of Cadillac, Scott (Sara) Bergquist of South Carolina, Jay Davis of Saginaw, Stephanie Davis and her boyfriend, Shayne Pollard of Beaverton, Cody Davis and his girlfriend, Lexie of Beaverton, Peyton and Jazzlynn McQuarters of Pinconning, Michigan; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren due in October; two sisters: Dorothy Kimmons and Betty (Don) Smethwick; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Graham and Hazel Robbins. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Kami. He was preceded in death by a son, Louie Davis; one brother, John Leon Davis. Honoring Harold's wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned, but he leaves us with a question, "Have you got your PMA up?" (Positive Mental Attitude) To Harold everything was "Okie Dokie" and "God Bless the Milk Cow!" Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
