Obituary of Mary Evelyn Paxson

PAXSON, Mary Evelyn "Evie" of Saginaw, Michigan, Passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper, with her family by her side. She was 100 years old. Mary Evelyn Pickett was born on December 10, 1913 in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Dr. William and Mary (Peach) Pickett. Evie was a graduate of Saginaw High School and of Michigan State College. It was during her college years she met her future husband, Avery B. Paxson, who was the captain of the Michigan State College football team, while she was voted Homecoming Queen. In 1942, Evie and Avery co-found Paxson Oil in Freeland. She was a past president of Kappa Alpha Theta, past president of the Junior League of Saginaw, and actively participated, with her friends, knitting various items for newborns. Evie was an avid bridge player. During her later years, Evie companioned and traveled extensively with close friends: Jane Wolf and Georgia Northway. Surviving are a daughter and two sons: Sally Spence of Saginaw, William Paxson of Lake Tahoe, NV, and John Paxson of Colorado; four grandchildren: Thomas Hohn, Robert (Kristie) Hohn, Shauna Trambert, Jennifer (Todd) Gardiner; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, John Paxson, Jr. his wife, Nicole, survives him, and a brother, William Pickett. FUNERAL: Honoring Evie's wishes private funeral services were held at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) with entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum. Rev. Dr. Robert L.
