Dear Bette and Family and Friends of Pete,
David and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. We are Ventura neighbors of Peggy and our angel Janet since 2002. It has been our pleasure getting to know Pete and Bette over the years. What beautiful grandparents and an incredible family. We always enjoyed Pete's smile, engaging conversation and interest in everything!
We sat bundled with him at his grandsons High School football games. Our son didn't play but we loved the family.
Much love to all of you in your loss.
Joye and David

Hello Dear Betty, Maggie, Theresa and Kathy,
My heart has not been light since I received your text. I was fortunate to read through memories and view the presentation of the flag. How proud Pete would be but none made him more proud than his family. You were his heart's center.
He loved you all so much, I remember his tears as we tried to understand Janet's illness. He talked about his girl's, he was ever the proud papa!
Frequently over the past months, I see him in my mind's eye walking the Ventura hillside with his unique walking stick, a perfect match for Pete. No one but no one was like Pete. He stood above most men, felt equal to all and all were better for having shared a lifetime or a few moments with him.
One afternoon, I talked him into staying while I made Missouri cookies over the stove. He thought I was brilliant and amazing. I filled him up with cookies and he filled up my spirit while we talked about our BRILLIANT, AMAZING children.
You all loved him well and the only way it could hurt less is to have loved him less and that's an option none of us would take.
Arms around all of you,
Judy Fairchild and George

Aunt Bette, Susan, Peggy, Kathy and Teresa,
Uncle Pete's greatest gift was his ability help others in many different ways providing his family such warmth & and wisdom. He was such an inspiration to me. When I needed to step outside of my comfort zone, I owe the my follow through to Uncle Pete. During these times I would revisit a couple events when he inspired me with the following words. "now go get them."
When both families were vacationing in Niagara Falls, I wanted to learn how to dive into the pool. My first thought I would hit my head. I told Uncle Pete "I won't be able to go head first as my head will hit the pool. He explained to me that going from the diving board with the head positioned just right that I could dive into that pool. Well I stood aside as Sharon, Kathy, and Janet took turns diving. I then went behind Janet and waited my turn. When Uncle Pete saw me on the diving board he told me don't be afraid. Once you do it once, you can do it forever. I stood there awhile, and I told myself if Uncle Pete is there I will do it. And I did just that.
Another time we were playing softball in the yard next to their house. I was on second base and started to run to third. When the next ball was caught, it landed on third base and then to second. I was nonetheless perplexed as I didn't have any base to run too. Uncle Pete was there to explain how a double out can occur and he said with a big smile, look what you learned. Now next time go get them.
Uncle Pete is my godfather who became the added inspiration I needed. He always had such a genuine smile and a natural gift in helping me. We all have been blessed by his kindness and thoughtfulness. Not many will be able to walk in his "footsteps." Everyone one of us who has been touched by him will definitely expose those true qualities to the many we all will be part of in our own lives. In essence one of God's angels has truly walked among us all.

He was a good man willing to help and lend a hand in any way he could particularly if it involved fixing something. When he would ask you to "go to the van and get my doctors bag" you knew something was about to get fixed and it would probably involve you. So I'm sure he is still standing at the pearly gates waiting to get in while St. Peter gets his "doctors bag" so he can fix the damn hinge that's coming loose. Perhaps this thought eases the sadness just a little knowing he is no longer here to lend a hand or fix things and he will be missed by all. Love you old man rest in peace.
