WOODINGTON, James Edwin of Saginaw, Michigan, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. James E. Woodington was born on April 9, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edwin and Mabel (Waack) Woodington. He married Nancy O'Conner on October 7, 1961 and they celebrated 53 years of marriage; she survives him. Jim retired from Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 2 after working for 32 years. He proudly served in the United States Army. Jim was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Saginaw Field and Stream, NRA. He enjoyed camping, deer hunting, classic car shows, watching sporting events, especially MSU Spartans, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and his grandchildren's activities. Surviving besides his wife, Nancy, are his son, Douglas (Mei) Woodington; daughter, Cheri Woodington; three granddaughters: Emilia, Ariana, and Elli; and one big loveable grand dog, Mudge. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Jane (Ed) Beyerlein; special neighbor and friend, Pat Dupuis; and other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sally and husband, Howard Robinson; mother- and father-in-law, Melford and Dora O'Connor; brother- and sister-in-law, Jack and Phyllis Mott; and sister-in-law, Mary Toombs. FUNERAL: Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4640 N. Michigan. Rev. Phillip DeVries will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Cemetery chapel military honors will take place under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., as well as on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Messiah Lutheran Church.
