Obituary of Karen L. Haselbeck

HASELBECK, Karen L. (McHenry) of Saginaw MI went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014. Karen passed away at home with family by her side after suffering long term illness. She was born on March 13, 1943 in Midland, MI to the late Emma Jean McHenry. She graduated from Saginaw High in 1962. Karen married her soul mate, James Haselbeck, on May 29, 1965 at Sacred Heart Church in Saginaw. Karen and Jim raised their family of four children over the next several years. During that time, Karen was involved with the Reese Public Schools as a Teacher's Assistant. Many of the children came to know her as "Witchy Poo". She also made a difference in her community with the younger generation by being a Girl Scout Leader for many years and with her own generation by hosting and instructing ceramic classes in her home every week. Karen is survived by her loving husband, James; her four children: Charles (Cathy) Haselbeck, Heidi Bayne, Greta (Matt) Zalucha, and John (Marsha) Haselbeck; seven grandchildren: Tiffany (Russ) Patterson, Todd Haselbeck, Amber Zalucha, Cody Zalucha, Corbin Bayne, Devan Bayne, and Mya Haselbeck; three great-grandchildren; and two spoiled dogs: Budha and Gizmo. Karen leaves behind many close friends. She is preceded in death by Emma Jean McHenry, Florence Losee, William Haselbeck, Sophia Haselbeck and Gloria Lagalo. The Haselbeck Family would like to provide a special Thank You to the Nurses at Covenant, Hospice, and the Visiting Nurses Association. The outstanding care you have provided is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all that you have done. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Norbert Catholic Church, 126 W. Munger Road. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel. Rite of Committal will follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service honoring Karen will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Karen will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to a college fund for Karen's great grandchildren c/o James W. Haselbeck.
