Mrs. LaPlante was my ninth grade English teacher, back in 1964. My oilder brother died of cancer that fall, and Mrs. LaPlante was caring and compassionate in a quiet way. She also inspired me to become a writer. Having read the other entries, it is obvious she had many gifts, and impacted people from all walks of life. I am sure there is a special place for her in heaven.

Walt and family,
My husband and I were colleagues of Josh in the Township Schools. What a beautiful and classy lady. After her retirement, we would see her everyday on her walk with her friend June. We are sure she is now walking in heaven. She touched so many lives and always had such a positive attitude. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My sympathy to you, Walt, and all your family. I always thought her nickname, Jolly, was so befitting! My late ex-husband, Chuck Laundra, was a colleauge of hers at MacArthur and he admired her as teacher and friend, as did I. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
May God bless you all in your loss.

Dear Jolly,
The memories I have of you start back on Ann Street in the early 60's. The kids were small and would play in the back yard as we socialized during the summer months. A few years later, I moved with my family to Wayside, but we remained friends. We spent time canning vegetables, making corn relish and maybe having a martini or two. Some of my favorite memories are when our families ate at the Royal Palm and attended the Shriner's Circus together. We had to buy so many chocolate bars so that each kid would get a certificate to win a lizard that would soon die. Then one day, you and Walt announced that you were buying the house across the street. I still remember how excited the kids were to be neighbors again. I have fond memories of staining furniture and painting your refrigerator with you. The summers were filled with swimming, grilling, sitting on the front porch and popping popcorn in the garage with the Shriner's machine. We also enjoyed time at Eight Point Lake and the Haunted House playing numerous games of Push. We had wonderful lunches together and enjoyed sharing many books. Jolly, thank you for your kindness, support and friendship for over 50 years.
Love,
June

I was saddened when I heard of the passing of Josh. She was an English department colleague and our rooms were next door. We shared teacher and subject matter concerns. She was a great teacher and great person. My deepest sympathy to the family. God bless.

Please know that Kirk and I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Your mom/grandma will always be remembered by me as my 9th grade English teacher.
