Joana was a student employee in the department where I work at the University of Michigan. Joana and I shared conversations about many subjects, some about cancer (I am in remission) but more about life in general. She was mirthful, intelligent, kind and funny. I will always remember the light that radiated from within her. She was a gift. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends. Diane

My heart is confused, as this vivacious soul has been lifted to the heavens to sing with the angels. Her time too short, yet her impact was grande. Tina, I was privileged to spend an amazing week with your daughter, last summer, thanks to a wonderful program. She was such a treasure and joy, and I can still hear her singing, giggling, joking and laughing out loud. I know I can speak inclusively, of everyone that was there, when I say that your daughter touched us all, she shone with her light from within and she will be dearly missed. Much Love from Maj (Jill McLane, Hood River, OR), part of her First Descents Family.

I would like to send my sympathy to your family for the loss of your daughter. I have a friend who lost her son to brain cancer a month ago. My heart goes out to your family. We have found much comfort from the promises in the Bible during these difficult times. I wanted to share one in particular that has helped me. I hope it offers you the same. It is found at Isaiah 41:13. Even though this scripture offers comfort death still affects us. Soon our loving Creator will swallow up death forever. (Isaiah 25:8)

Although I didn't know Joana, I wish to send my deepest condolences to the family in a time of such a difficult loss. One of the hardest trials in life is to lose someone you love. Yet, there is something that has always brought comfort to me that I wanted to share with you.
The one thing we want most when we lose someone in death is to be able to see them again. Such a thing is not a mere dream, it will become a reality in the near future. At John 5:28, 29 Jesus said "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Yes, soon you will have the opportunity to welcome Joana, along with many others who have lost their lives in death, back to a beautiful new paradise earth. What an exciting time that will be!
Right now, the pain of death still affects us all. Such will not be the case under that new earth. At that time God will "swallow up death forever." (Isaiah 25:8) May you find comfort in the Bible's promises. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of great loss.

Joana is probably the happiest person I have ever met! You can tell that she lived for God, and always put others before herself.
The first time I had heard her speak, I heard he talk about her battle with cancer, and I realized what an incredible person she is. She never gave up hope and she used her story to share God with everyone she met.
She will be incredibly missed everywhere, especially here at UM. But everyone knows it isn't good bye - she will continue to take care of everyone in her life, just from above now.
I am glad that she finally got to be with her heavenly father. and I believe with all my heart, that she ran into His arms as He said "good job, my good and faithful servant." In fact, I am a little jealous that she beat me to our final destination. :)
