Obituary of Agnes M. Benkert

BENKERT, Agnes M. of Saginaw, Michigan died peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 surrounded by her family. Agnes M. Doerr was born in Saginaw to Henry A. and Amelia (Boensch) Doerr on October 8, 1919. She married Michael J Benkert on February 1, 1947. He predeceased her on March 29, 1977. Agnes lived in Indiantown for over 65 years, farming with her husband until his death. She loved gardening, flowers, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. When her health permitted, she enjoyed traveling on bus trips throughout the United States with her friends. Surviving are one daughter, Linda (Howard) Hollingshead of Reese; two sons: Mike (Lori) Benkert of Reese, Rick Benkert of Saginaw; eight grandchildren: Pete (Diane) Kumar, Matt Kumar, Anne (Leo) Thompson, John (fiancée Becky) Hollingshead, Michele (Don Begalle) Benkert, Mel Benkert, Lee Ann Benkert, Loni (Hamood Hassan) Benkert; and six precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Mary and Frances Doerr. Agnes was predeceased by four brothers: Carl, Herbert, Henry, and Robert Doerr; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given to their mother by Dr. Jane Castillo, Hospice of Hope staff, and the A&D staff including, Linda, Shawn, Tara, Alyssa, Kathy, Tracey and Sunny. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Rd. Rev. Fr. Ronald J. Dombrowski will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Agnes will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of Hope or A&D Charitable Foundation.
