Obituary
Obituary of Kay Jane Hausbeck
Please share a memory of Kay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HAUSBECK, Kay Jane (Hanlon) was born April 6, 1934 in Saginaw Michigan, the first child to Isabel and Kenneth Hanlon. A few years later Kenn Jr. was born and the family was complete.
Kay graduated from Saginaw High School in 1952, where she excelled in journalism.
After graduating from high school Kay worked at Michigan Bell.
She married Richard R. Hausbeck on May 14, 1955. Together, they raised 5 daughters. Jane Anne, their first child, was diagnosed with cancer at age seven. Kay refused to let it define their lives and Jane went on to finish her school years successfully, finally succumbing in 1976 at age 18 with her ever loving mother by her side. After Jane's death Kay was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Again she put on her gloves and got ready to fight, after all, she still had her four other daughters, Mary Kay, Sheila, Kathleen and Molly depending on her. Through all the trauma of her life Kay showed her girls what an extraordinary mother she was. She sewed them beautiful dresses and sweet nightshirts. She baked and decorated delicious cakes for every birthday. She combed the snarls from their hair and gave them ponytails, made them eat all their meatloaf (most of the time), knitted them warm mittens and in the 70s crocheted them cool purses. She was an outstanding Yahtzee and Scrabble player, and a great lover of books. Her favorite past time was antique hunting for dishes decorated with lovely flowers that she displayed proudly in her home. She would never be caught without bright red lipstick, her favorite color was blue, and she always had room for chocolate. She loved the scent of lily of the valley in the spring and the sweet peas her father gave her every year for her birthday. She was a sweet mother-in-law to Jeff Collins (Sheila), Andy Miller (Kathleen) and her lunch buddy Greg Lyman (Mary). She was immensely proud of her seven grandchildren, Anna, Adam, Scott, Abigail, Ben, Alaina and Isabella.
Kay was a devout Catholic and she and Richard were charter members at Saint Anthony of Padua Church. She attended church daily and in her later years found comfort in her rosary. Her loving husband, Richard, was her constant companion whose hand she reached for whenever it was near. She was completely devoted to him during their 58 years of marriage and showed him her love in many ways from knitting argyle socks to keeping his supper warm on late nights during pickle season. He made her laugh with his silly teasing and later helped her walk and care for herself as her illness progressed. Mary, Sheila, Kathleen, Molly and Richard are sad to say goodbye but take comfort in believing that Kay is with Jane now and her own mother and father. She will be with them still in all the memories they hold in their hearts until they are together as a family again.
At the end of her life Kay met many compassionate and skilled people who helped to make the journey home easier and more comfortable. For that, her family will be forever grateful.
