COTIE, James E. of Saginaw, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Jim was a kind compassionate, loving dad and grandpa. Those who knew Jim loved his wonderful personality and keen sense of humor. He was 84 years old. James was born on August 4, 1928 to the late Lawrence William and Frances (McNamee) Cotie. He married the late Barbara Jean Hanover on October 10, 1953 at the Sacred Heart Church. He graduated from St. Mary's High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1952. He was employed by the C&O Railroad for 30 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Saginaw Valley Mystics for the past 10 years, and taught Judo for 8 years at Delta College in the 1960s. He also enjoyed amateur magic, hypnosis, bass fishing, music of the 1940s, playing his boogie woogie music on the piano and watching the Detroit Tigers. Jim was also a member of the National Spoonpluggers of America. Surviving are his daughters: Karen (Charles) Swan of Mason, Christine (Ronald) Zuzula of Saginaw, Michelle (Ernest) Ferguson of Owosso. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Charles Swan, Jason Swan, Angela Miller; Courtney (George) Daniel, Melanie (Michael) Kahl, Katie (Kevin Schunk) Zuzula and nine great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by a brother, William Cotie and a sister, Elizabeth Cotie. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery. MILITARY: Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post 1859. VISITATION: Friends and family are welcome to visit at the church one hour before the Liturgy. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society.
