Obituary of Dora Tijerina

TIJERINA, Dora of Saginaw, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Good Friday, March 29, 2013, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old. Dora Garcia was born on January 17, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late, George and Petra (Lopes) Garcia. She married the love of her life, Raymond Tijerina, Sr. on August 23, 1952 in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on November 13, 1996. Dora was a faithful and devoted member of the Catholic faith. She was employed by St. Mary's hospital as a physical therapist; retiring in 1976 after many years of dedicated service. She loved and cherished her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She also enjoyed bingo and going to the casino. Surviving are two sons and a daughter: Raymond (Nancy) Tijerina, Jr, and Robert (Debbie) Tijerina and Sally (David) Arriaga; eight grandchildren: Carla, Carey, Kim, Jenny, Ryan, Victor, Nick and Priscilla; and 11 greatgrandchildren; two sisters: Celia (Carlos) Trevino and Victoria "Vickie" Vela; three sisters-in-law: Kathryn (Ben) Gonzales of Camarillo, CA, Connie Williams and Lupe Ornelas; and her beloved dog, Tita. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary, Frances Elvina, and Amy: one brother, Gollo Garcia: four brothers-in-law: Fib and Harold Tijerina, Art Castanon and Robert Vela: two-sisters-inlaw: Deloras Farnar and Jeanne Castanon. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Dora's caregivers. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Dora will lie in state at the church on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Grace Hospice.
