Obituary of Donna Jean Cooper
Cooper, Donna Jean, age 87, formerly of Birch Run, Alden, Lake Village and Saginaw, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister was called to join her loving husband and heavenly father on November 7th, 2022. Donna was born on April 28th, 1935 in Birch Run, Michigan, the daughter of Marion and Alice (Beach) Douglas. Donna was united in marriage to the love of her life, Carlos Lee Cooper, on April 21st, 1951; he preceded her in death on April 18th, 2003.
Donna and Carlos owned and operated Coopers Gas and Grocery in Birch Run for 12 years. Later, moving to Northern Michigan, she was employed by Kalkaska School System as a bus driver and lunchroom assistant, where she fulfilled her love of working with children. Donna also enjoyed going to garage sales, picking cherries, crafting and eating ice cream; but the truest joy of her life was spending time with her family.
Donna is survived by her loving children: Carla (James) Van Slembrouck of Gladwin, Jeanette (Calvin) Stockford of St. Charles and Douglas (Cindy) Cooper of Midland; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jeremy (Beth) Stockford, Breanne Cooper, Zachary (Emily) Cooper, Charity (Dane) Humphries, Janelle Cooper, Katie (Cody) Megregian and Carly Van Slembrouck; six great-grandchildren: Hunter, Blake, Addison Stockford, Wyatt and Wesson Humphries and Zoe Cooper; sister: Alice Cooper; dear Brazilian friend: Cristina Franco and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Carlos, Donna was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Langley and Ruth Way and two brothers, Duane and Donald Douglas.
Donna’s family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the caring staff at both Pine Haven Assisted Living and Heart to Heart Hospice, for all of the great care that they gave to her.
FUNERAL: A funeral service for Donna will take place on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State St.) Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Patricia Kelly will officiate, with a luncheon to follow at Horizon’s Event Center.
Interment will take place in Birch Run Township Cemetery for family only.
VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to visit at Deisler Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
