Obituary of Donald Gene Pittman

Pittman, Donald of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. He was 84 years old. Donald Gene Pittman was born on September 23, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Hillman and Pearl (Anderson) Pittman. Don enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he would meet Rose Marie Kennedy and they married on November 22, 1952; she survives him. Don was a mechanic for Greyhound in Arizona, and then he and his family moved back to Michigan. Once back in Michigan, he would work as a carpenter for and would retire from Meijer. In his spare time, Don loved to camp, fish, help people, and spend time tinkering around in his barn. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Rose; three daughters and one son: Connie Lijewski, Brian (Connie) Pittman, Crystal Robertson, and Susan (Brian) Valeck; nine grandchildren: Dale, Shawn, Ryan, Bryan, Samantha (Robert), Tyler, Melissa (Chris), Jeremy (Taeia), Zachary (Jennifer); 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene (Cherryal) Pittman; three sisters: Gerri Ofstedal, Margie Fruk, and Marlene (Jan) Janiuk; sister-in-law, Anne Pittman; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Othal, Harold, and James Pittman; and two sons-in-law, Dale Lijewski and Andy Robertson. FUNERAL: A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Immediately following the service at the funeral home, military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the VFW #1859 and the United States Army. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to bring a pair of shoes for those in need or to the wishes of the family, c/o Rose Pittman.
