Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. She was 57 years old. Janet Gunning was born on April 16, 1969 to Carl Sr. and Janet Fay (Morrison) Gunning.  

She loved to play crosswords puzzles and to color in adult coloring books and had a strong faith in her heavenly father, Jehovah. 

Janet is survived by her children, Joseph Gunning, Joshua Gunning (Breeanna Davis), Tyveon Gunning, Asia Gunning, Australia Brown; two grandchildren; siblings: Sharry McClain, Carl (Tammy) Gunning and Jason Gunning; several nieces and nephews, including a dear niece, Jessica Gunning and a special friend, Carolyn Tyree, who was with her until the end.  

Janet was preceded in death by her son, Jeremiah M. Gunning; granddaughter, Oceania Gunning; sister, Tammy Jean Horn; her parents, Carl Gunning and Janet Donahue; and her grandparents; brother-in-law, Allen McClain. 

Cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.
