Obituary of Thomas M. Burkey, M.D.

Thomas M. Burkey, M.D., passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, at Barton Woods Assisted Living in Freeland. He was 77 years old.

Thomas Michael Burkey was born on December 21, 1948, in Bay City, Michigan, to Marshall R. and Theresa M. (Derosier) Burkey. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1965 and continued his education at Aquinas College and Wayne State University, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree.

Dr. Burkey proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting as an officer and being stationed in San Jose, California, and Hawaii.

In 1992, Dr. Burkey returned to Saginaw, where he established a successful medical practice and faithfully served the community until his retirement in 2018. He was a proud supporter of the Saginaw community and was deeply committed to caring for his patients with compassion and dedication.

Surviving are his siblings, Mary Ann Burkey; Russell (Denise) Burkey; Randall (Sally) Burkey; Paul Burkey; Judy Burkey; and Joseph (Kellie) Burkey, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dr. Burkey was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Theresa Burkey; brothers, John Burkey and Robert Burkey; life partner, Johnathan Wilcoxx.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate. A committal service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy and American Legion Post # 439.
