Obituary of Janice B. McCreery

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend joined her loved ones in heaven after a long and full life on Saturday morning, November 29, 2025, at Healthsource in Saginaw, she was 87 years old. Janice Blanche Weitz was born on January 24, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan to Fred and Helen (Kwaiser) Weitz. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1956. She then attended the Chicago Art Institute, where she met and married Briggs Dyer. He passed away in 1970. She married Robert William McCreery in Saginaw, Michigan and he passed away in 1986. Janice graduated from Delta College, earning an Associates degree in Architectural Drafting in 1980. She was employed by Weber Lumber Company as an Architectural Drafter, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. Janice was a faithful and active member of Saints Peter and Paul church for many years.

Janice was highly creative and socially aware. Her gift as an artist plus her love of architecture made her a talented draftsperson, sought out in the mid-michigan area. In many ways, she was a woman before her time as she was one of few women in her field. She loved music, especially Jazz, and in her earlier years she played guitar and was a recorded torch song singer. Janice was also highly concerned with historic preservation and safe neighborhoods, and she served on her local neighborhood association for many years. Additionally, she was very politically and culturally informed, and she had a strong sense of social justice that was informed by her faith.

Surviving are her children, Dr. Brigit Dyer, Anthony Dyer, Patrick McCreery, Lynn Huizar (Jamie) and her 5 grandchildren: Zachary Dyer, Sam (Nikki) Reynolds, Emile Reynolds, Bailey Huizar and Tristan Huizar and great-child, Violet Dyer.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Pastor Kevin Maksym will officiate.
