Mary Martinez
Saginaw, Michigan

Mary Martinez, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday evening, August 16, 2025, at Symphony Tri-Cities in Bay City. She was 87 years old.

Mary was born on February 26, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Manuel and Angela (Espinoza) Vela. In 1958, she married Guillermo Martinez Sr., in Indiana. He survives her.

Mary was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw for many years. She was known for her kind heart, her selfless care for her family, and her wonderful cooking. She delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones, cheering proudly from the stands at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and dancing with Guillermo. More than anything, Mary treasured the moments spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Surviving are her children: Guillermo (Alicia) Martinez Jr., Theresa Martinez Acevedo, Daniel (Rose) Martinez, Michael Martinez, and David (Martha) Martinez; her grandchildren: Nina Martinez, Guillermo Martinez III, Melissa (Nate) Stievo, Arthur (Stephanie) Acevedo Jr., Gabriel Acevedo, Samantha Martinez, Nicholas (Nichole) Martinez, Rudy Martinez, Cherie Martinez, and Marissa Martinez; and her great-grandchildren: Marcelis King, Nivia King, Anissa King, Seqario King, Xavier Martinez, Lilly Anna Martinez, Consintino Venegas, Lucas Martinez, and Kataleya Martinez. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Manuel, Joe, Charles, Edward, Robert, and Guillermo Vela; and two sisters, Rachael Heredia and Gobita “Hope” Chappins.

Mary’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Symphony Tri-Cities and Transitions Hospice for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Crystal, Natasha, Monica, and Elizabeth.
