Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great-grandmother, triple great grandmother, aunt and dear friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Shields Comfort Care, at the age of 106. Anna Mary Chasnis was born on July 5, 1918, in Saginaw to Sylvester and Veronica (Butkis) Chasnis.

She attended a country school in LaPorte, Michigan. Anna married Paul Peter Lake on July 4, 1936, at St. George Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1989. She worked for Weber School for over 20 years. Anna had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic, worshipping at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian, St. George Catholic Church, St. Casmir Catholic Church and St. Francis of Assisi Parish – St. Anthony of Padua where she loved to sing in the church’s choirs. She was also a member of the Knights of Lithuania and the Red Hat Society. Anna loved to shower her family with love, often making cookies for everyone to enjoy. She greatly enjoyed sending birthday cards to family and friends. Anna was also a talented gardener.

Anna is survived by her children: Janet Sweetwood, Elizabeth Houghton, Julia and Thomas Lowe, Edward and Crystal Lake; daughter-in-law, Sandy Lake; 34 grandchildren: 46 great- grandchildren; 37 great great-grandchildren and 2 triple great grandchildren. Additionally her dear friends Del Arndt, Jean Mielke, Karen Karp and Valencia Garcia; several special friends she made at Shield’s Comfort Care, many nieces, nephews and extended family. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul P. Lake; son, Joseph P. Lake; sons-in-law, Edward Sweetwood and Leon Houghton; grandchildren: Michael Paul Lake and Lori Sue Johnson; eight siblings: Stanley, Sylvester, John, August, Alex, Vera, Frances and Josephine.

Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603 on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Frances of Assisi Parish – St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3680 South Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601 on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Committal and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw.


Anna’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Shields Comfort Care and to Harmony Health Hospice for the amazing attention that was given to Anna and her family during her stay there.
