Obituary of Carolyn Marie Hammis
Carolyn Marie Bluem Hammis peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family, on June 23, 2025. She was 87 years old. Carolyn was born in Saginaw Michigan on June 19,1938 to Edward and Marie (Hill) Bluem. Carolyn attended Holy Family Catholic School. Upon her high school graduation Carolyn enrolled in the Nursing program at St Mary’s Hospital of Saginaw where she obtained her Registered Nursing Degree. Later in life, Carolyn continued her education and graduated with a Business degree from Saginaw Valley State University.
Carolyn married James F. Hammis on August 29, 1959. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. During their marriage they welcomed five children into the world, they were blessed with 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and counting. Carolyn and Jim were very devoted to their family in many ways. Together they nurtured their family, built their first home, their cottage on Townline Lake and their successful business Centennial Technologies, established in 1976. All of which were built on a solid and sustainable foundation of love.
Carolyn lived a life of service, first to her family, their business and to the community she lived in. Carolyn faithfully volunteered at St Stephen’s Catholic School and Church. Carolyn also volunteered at the East Side Soup Kitchen for many years, serving as Board President and many other volunteer positions. Carolyn also supported many fundraising efforts for the Saginaw Underground Railroad Shelter House and the United Way of Saginaw. She worked tirelessly and humbly to support the underserved, the forgotten and vulnerable in our community.
Carolyn and Jim enjoyed many travel adventures around the world. Carolyn also became an accomplished China painter later in life. Studying with several experts both in Michigan and their winter home in Florida. Her family will always cherish those pieces of art.
Carolyn is survived by her husband James, her daughter Judith Stein (Matthew), son James E Hammis (Stefanie, Beth), daughter Christine Valesano (Gerard), son Joseph Hammis (Kelley) and son-in-law Don Everts (Mary). Her grandchildren, Abigail Stein, Annalyn Stein, Ashley Nelson (Ryan), Alizabeth Stein, Molly Hammis (Dusty), Zoe Ramlow (Brad), Mick Valesano, Maria Peterson (Patrick), Laurel Hammis, Aubrey Hammis, Max Hammis, Justin Everts, Jacob Everts (Kelsey), Sam Everts, and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Jacolyn Blasch and Marilyn George.
Carolyn was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Everts, grandson Adam Hammis, her parents Edward and Marie Bluem, her sister Gwendalyn Bluem, brother Thomas Bluem and sister Angelyn Bluem.
Carolyn’s family has entrusted her funeral care to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw MI 48603. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until a time of sharing memories at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn St, Saginaw, MI 48602 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Richard John will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.
Carolyn left a legacy of love, devotion and service to her family and community. The world was blessed to have witnessed that love in action through Carolyn.
