Obituary of Marian "Sue" Johnson

Please share a memory of Marian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Johnson, M. Sue

Marian Sue Sexton Johnson, age 82, of Saginaw went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Her father, James M. Sexton and mother, Evelyn M. Sexton predeceased her. She had three brothers, Daniel L Sexton (Birgit), of Homosassa, FL, Patrick N. Sexton, (deceased), Russell E. Sexton, (deceased), and many nieces and nephews.

Sue was born in Kimball, West Virginia on June 1, 1942. The family moved to Baltimore, MD, where she graduated from Patterson Park High School. After moving to Saginaw, she continued her education by receiving an Associate Degree from Delta College. She is survived by her husband, William J. Johnson and three sons and their spouses: Dr. Ernest N. Johnson (Vickie), Edward A. Johnson (Caral) and Earl J. Johnson (Misty).

Sue and her husband have been life-long members of the First United Methodist Church on Gratiot Rd., where she was a member of two women's groups that supported many various charities and church functions. She also enjoyed playing in the church "Bells on High" hand-bell choir, playing concerts in the church and several around the state as well as attending many bell-ringing schools of instruction around the state. She gave up bell-ringing only when her arthritis insisted that she retire.

Sue was an avid reader, enjoying books, magazines and newspapers, especially the Sunday New York Times. She found material from libraries, book clubs and anywhere else where she could find a good read. She was somewhat fussy on what she read, but did manage to find material wherever she looked. She enjoyed working with words, and with that ability, she began working as a Medical Transcriptionist. That led to a membership with the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists and it wasn't long before she was elected Treasurer of the organization. During her long career as a transcriptionist, she employed her skill in five different medical practices.

She always enjoyed joining with long-time friends for lunch at several area restaurants, some near and some not so near, where they caught up on family, social activities and pretty much everything going on in the world. She enjoyed baseball and was an avid fan of the Loons in Midland and the Tigers in Detroit.

Sue was quick to befriend most everyone she met and will be sincerely and truly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Sue’s life will take place at 11a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Road, Saginaw, MI 48638. Pastor Amy Terhune will officiate.
