Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hayner, Joanne M.

Saginaw, Michigan

Our loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. She was 87 years old. Joanne Margaret Hurry was born on February 16, 1938 to Marquerite Lehnhardt and Gilbert Hurry. She met Larry L. Hayner at Arthur Hill High School during study group hour in 1955. They became friends and started to date in 1956. They were married on June 27, 1959 and celebrated 65 wonderful years together. Larry will greatly miss the most honest person he has ever met.

Joanne is survived by her husband Larry; daughter Anne Hayner and her husband Martin Hefner; son Jeff Hayner and his wife Louisa (Lea) Abbott; her grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Elisabeth Hefner, Logan and Willow Hayner; nieces and nephews: Thomas Kelly and wife Veronica, Nancy Zeldenrust (Kelly), Janice Meyer and husband J. Thomas; additional nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Lorraine Hudson and husband Jim, Gordon Hurry and wife Elaine, and Donna Kelly and husband John.

Her children are grateful for her support through the years, at school and as a Cub and Girl Scout leader.

Joanne was a lifelong Lutheran and past President of the Zion Lutheran Church Women’s Group (ZLCW) for many years. She always helped decorate the church for the holidays.

Her great talent was arrangements: laying out a perfect spread for a picnic, knowing just the right color and placement for any object in a room and creating beautiful floral works of art for her home, church and for sale.

Joanne liked to spend time in her yard, caring for her flowers and hostas. She especially loved raking leaves in the fall.

She enjoyed travel and camping and collecting rocks on Michigan’s beaches. One of her favorite places was the Straits of Mackinac, which she first visited when the Mackinac Bridge was being built. Her most memorable trip was her drive to Alaska on the ALCAN Highway in 1977.

FUNERAL: A funeral service for Joanne will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Christina Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m.
