Barbara Greer-Sluiter devoted educator, loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Wellspring Senior Living Campus-Saginaw. She was 84 years old. Barbara Ann Denholm was born on September 5, 1940 in Tonganoxie, Kansas to William and Irene (Cox) Denholm. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in a hardworking dairy farming family. Her father was a dedicated Kansas state legislator. She carried her family’s values of perseverance and service throughout her life, along with a strong will and a sharp sense of humor. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Elementary Education and later earned her master’s degree from Wichita State University. As an elementary school teacher, she touched the lives of countless students, making learning both meaningful and fun. She adored her fellow teachers, forming lifelong friendships with them over shared lesson plans, laughter, and a deep love for their students.

In 1990, she married Jack Sluiter, and together they moved to Saginaw to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. While in Michigan, during her retirement years, she enjoyed working as a Field Placement Coordinator for Saginaw Valley State University. Barbara was also a member of Eastern Star and P.E.O. She was a proud and devoted mother to her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Denny Wierda, and a cherished grandmother to Collin and Anna, who brought her endless joy. Her warmth, wit, and generosity made her unforgettable. Whether she was telling a hilarious story, standing firm in her beliefs, or baking another batch of cookies, she did everything with love.

GATHERING: In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to gather to share memories and stories together on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Barbara’s cremated remains will be buried at Tonganoxie Cemetery – Hubble Hill in Tonganoxie, Kansas at a later date.
