Obituary of Daniel Ortiz

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Ortiz, age 79, on February 14, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

Daniel was born in Austin, Texas on December 17, 1945, to Patrick and Virginia Guerrero. He was adopted and raised by Hilario and Galdina Ortiz in Saginaw, Michigan. His parents proudly raised Dan in the faith at Latin American Assembly of God currently named Harvest Assembly of God.

Daniel was a dedicated and husband to Lidia Ortiz for 39 years.  He was a loving father, leaving behind his son, Daniel B.  (Kathy) Ortiz and two daughters, Kelly (Mike) Hernandez and Kolette (Felix) Pacheco, he had eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Daniel was also a stepfather to Lidia’s six children, Linda (Mark) D’Agostino, Mary Arroyo, Janie Arroyo, Juan Arroyo, Martha Arroyo, Dalia (Edwin) Holmes, her 21 Grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandkids. He is also survived by two sisters Margie Miller in Texas and Esther Delgado, Saginaw, Michigan as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Galdina Ortiz, and siblings, Lupe Rodriguez, Paul Ortiz, Larry Ortiz, Irene Ortiz, Rosalinda Ortiz.

Daniel graduated from Saginaw High School and in 1968, he volunteered to enlist in the military.  Daniel proudly served his country as a United State Marine during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He was later honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29^th, 2025, at Harvest Assembly of God, 625 S. 17^th Street, Saginaw, Michigan at 4:00pm for his Michigan family and a memorial service with military honors at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen Texas, on April 4, 2025 at 3:00pm.
