Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 6, 2025. She was 87 years old, just shy of her 88th birthday. Susan Furstenberg was born March 20, 1937 in Saginaw to Norman and Dorothy (Wolf) Furstenberg. She married Thomas M. “Tom” Schultz on January 7, 1956 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing. Together they celebrated 66 years, making memories before Tom’s passing on May 28, 2022. Susan was a lifeguard at Andersen Pool in the 1950s. She and Tom started Schultz Plumbing & Heating Co., where Susan worked for over 50 years. Susan was also the owner and manager of Schultz Apartments and a member of the Home Builders Association for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, where she participated in funeral luncheons. She volunteered at Pregnancy Care Center and St. Mary’s Hospital gift shop. Susan loved to travel with her family, including trips to Cape Cod in their motorhome. She also spent many winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and summers at her family cottage at Budd Lake, where she cherished the friendships that were built during those times. Susan always had a very giving spirit and valued dear friendships throughout her life. She was a lifelong MSU fan and was a member of the Cardinal Club at SVSU.
Susan’s warm smile and servant’s heart will be deeply missed by her children: Deborah (Oleg) Barantchouk, T. Michael (Jennifer LaBrash) Schultz, Mary Sue (John) Conley, David (Alicia) Schultz and Patrick (Carrie) Schultz; grandchildren: Anastasia Barantchouk, Taylor (Lindsi) Schultz, Spencer Schultz, Conner (Caitlyn) Schultz, Alyssa and Logan LaBrash, Megan (Phil) Waddell, Ryan (Katie) Conley, Katie (Tyler) Perry, Adam (Charlotte) Richter, Justine Schultz, Logan (Mattie) Schultz, Lauren (Nicolas) Sarmiento, Collin and Kieran Schultz; great-grandchildren: Isaac, Alyssa, Alivia, Emily, Claudia, Ronan, Lincoln Thomas, Everlee, Eisley, Flynn, Harris, and Lainey Sue; sisters-in-law, Barbara Furstenberg and Mary Catherine Schultz; brother-in-law, Michael Molnar and cousin Tony Kaufmann; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Susan is predeceased by her parents, Norman and Dorothy; her parents-in-law: Thomas W. and Mildred Schultz; daughter, Kathryn (Schultz) Andersen; brothers: James N. Furstenburg, William J. Furstenberg and Richard W. Furstenberg; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Norma K. (Tom) Foley, Shirley Schultz, Joanne R. Molnar, John M. Schultz and Timothy A. Schultz.
Susan’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers: Tennille, Amber, Crystal, Cece, Carmel and Kamari and the staff of Compassus Hospice for the extraordinary care they provided Susan during the last few months.
FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy for Susan will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzhan St., Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Fr. Tony Richter and Rev. Fr. Richard John will co-officiate. For those not able to attend, the service can be viewed on the website of: www.stdominicsaginaw.org/livestreams. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Susan will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
