Bailie, James E. “Jim”
Saginaw, Michigan

James Edward Bailie, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn, MI. Born on January 17, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Edmund and Elsie (Simpson) Bailie, Jim was a lifelong resident of the area.

A proud graduate of St. Mary High School in 1966, Jim furthered his education at Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education. His passion for teaching led him to a fulfilling career, where he inspired students and shaped young minds in History and Social Studies. Jim began his teaching career at his alma mater before moving to Florida for a few years. He then returned to Michigan, where he continued teaching at Hemlock High School, Pinconning High School, and later Pinconning Middle School from 1990 until his retirement in 2010. Alongside his teaching, Jim was dedicated to coaching, where he mentored many young athletes in football, basketball, and baseball. Later in his career, Jim transitioned to coaching golf, a sport he deeply loved, and spent countless hours enjoying rounds with the Bailie Group at Swan Valley Golf Course.

Jim found his soulmate, Sandra Kaye Schiefer, on a blind date set up by his sister, and their connection quickly blossomed into a loving and lasting partnership. They were married on April 24, 1971, a union that spanned over 50 years. Jim’s loving wife, Sandi, survives him.

Jim is also survived by his siblings: Margaret (Larry) Shapland, Kathleen Bailie, Theresa (Richard) Rushlow, Brian (Kate) Bailie, Barbara (Brad) Dietzel, and Daniel Kilbourn; his father-in-law, Elmer Schiefer; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Deborah (Michael) Lenz, David (Michelle) Schiefer, and Christopher Schiefer; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Elsie Bailie; his mother-in-law, Bernice Schiefer; his sister, Eileen Fons; and his beloved nephews, Andrew Lenz and Dr. Dan Cotè.

Jim’s legacy of dedication to his family, friends, his students, and the countless individuals he mentored will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will gather privately to celebrate his life. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Tony and Trish House, Donations In Memory | Toni & Trish House.
