Obituary of Frederick Roger Burback Jr.

Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

The son of the late Fred and Mary (Meyer) Burback, Fred was born on June 27, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jo Haenlein on January 30, 1963. He worked at the Grey Iron Foundry and then moved on the General Motors, where he worked as a floor inspector in the heat treat department. He retired from Delphi in 2001.

Fred enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed working with the Retirees on the Christmas party and playing euchre with his friends. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, bowling and watching golf, Michigan football and Detroit Tigers baseball. He enjoyed going to the Great Lakes Loons games with close friends, Fred and Sue Hausbeck.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his daughters, Bonnie (Bill) Smith and Amy VanMeter; his sons, Scott (Kathy) Burback, Steven (Erika) Burback, and Kevin (Donna) Burback; grandchildren Christopher (Stephanie) Burback, Amber Burback (Tony), Chase Smith (Zoe Plume), Brice Burback, Nathan VanMeter (Rachel Paul), and Bridgett Burback (Mike); great grandchildren, MaryKay, Ethan, Anthony and Alexander; his siblings Terry Burback of Maricopa, Arizona, Don Burback of Bryon, Texas, and Barb Martin of Saginaw, Michigan and brother in law Rick (Pam) Haenlein of Saginaw; as well as many nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his son, Brian D. Burback.

Following Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will gather for a private service.
